1) What is Fashion Designing?

Fashion designing is the applied art dedicated to clothing and lifestyle accessories created within the cultural and social influences of a specific time. It is considered to have a built in obsolescence usually of one to two seasons. A season is defined as either autumn/winter or spring/summer.

   
2) Why Fashion Designing as a Career?
 

Textile and Apparel industry is the second largest employer in India and employing more than 4 million people. India is the fourth largest apparel supplier to the world. The retail industry is growing at the rate of 25% in the last 3 years. Industry exhibits good rate over the last decade.

   
3) What are the Career Prospects of Fashion Design?
 

Fashion designing is a demanding profession. The long working hours during college only prepare one for the long working hours as professional. And one should remember that fashion designing is not only limited to designing clothes but in fact it includes a vast gamut of professions that include Jewelry or accessory designing. Most designers start by apprenticing with an established fashion designer or a fashion house or look for employment in an export or manufacturing unit. Others freelance from a home studio or boutique and develop their own labels. Career options can include any of the following -

Fashion marketing.
Merchandising.
Fashion design production.
Costume design.

Technical designer.

4) What is the Eligibility for Fashion Designing Courses?
 

Undergraduate Courses
For undergraduate programmes - 10+2 with a minimum of 50% from any recognized board of education. Having a portfolio of sketches, drawings and other artistic creations help.

Graduate Courses
The applicant should be a Bachelors degree holder in architecture or design or interior design or equivalent to be eligible for admission. Again to be eligible to apply, one can also be a professional diploma holder in design or a B.F.A degree holder. Moreover a master’s degree holder in Arts or computer application or science can also apply.

   
5) What is the upper age limit for applying for a Degree Program ?
   Age group from 17 yrs to 34 yrs
6) What is the general calendar of admission process?
   For all the degree course the admission starts from  March onwards but diploma we have three to four intake thats one from the month of march,than the second from july onwards the third from october onwards & january onwards.

8) What are the eligibility criteria for various programs @ VIFT ?
 

Eligibility for Bachelor Programmes - Design

The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi. OR

General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. OR

Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in Foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system. OR

A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects. OR

3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

   
9) How are students evaluated in the regular programs?
 

Continuous evaluation and assessment is undertaken throughout the semester by way of assignments, projects, internships and presentations. Juries comprising academicians and industry professionals assess students' work and capabilities. The aim is to closely monitor students' evolution as competent professionals and provide critical feedback to students on their performance and development.

   
10) What are the facilities provided on campus in terms of services to the students?
  Students are provided with library (Resource center), hostel facility, canteen, sports zone, Internet access, transportation facility.
   
11) Is the course recognized?
  Yes…the course is Affiliated to Bangalore University, Govt of Karnataka.
   
12) What’s the kind of placements we get after the course completion ?
 

VIFT has a dedicated placement cell which will organize for the campus interview from leading, reputed apparel industries. The placement cell also provides cent % assistance and information about the vacancies at the Career option in the Institutes official website. The companies related to Garment export, Retail, Fashion houses, and Designers offer employment opportunities, we have a very good placement record in different industries like Retail houses, Designers, Boutiques, Jewelers, Builders & developers, Architects . 13) Is there hostel Facility?
  Yes, we do provide hostel facility.
   
14) Internship?
  Internship is also a part of the course which every student has go through for a period of 6 to 8 weeks.
   
15) What are the hidden expenses?
  All the material & stationary items are borne by the students only.
   
16) Is there any other specialization course after completion of the course?
  Yes, you can pursue Masters Or Post Graduate diploma courses.
   
17) About Faculty?
  We have well qualified experienced faculties inline with academics & industry oriented.
   
18) About the fashion show & jewellery show?
  It’s a part of the curriculum where students get a platform to exhibit their design collection through the process of Jury which is called VOGUE MYTIQUE DESIGNER AWARDS.
   
19) Do we have a Dress code?
  Yes.
   
20) Is Attendance compulsory?
  Yes, Minimum of 75 % is compulsory.
