What’s Hot in Fashion Design Shows This Year?
We’re nearly half way into 2025 and there have already been an array of fashion design shows that have happened. While there have been a few hits and misses, we cannot miss the dynamic trends we’ve seen. For anyone pursuing a B.Des in Fashion Design course, fashion shows and events are almost like a bible. It’s important to closely notice what’s in vogue and what’s not. It’s even ideal for those seeking inspiration.
Just a few days ago, fashion’s favourite party – MET Gala, returned on the first Monday of May. The theme for the show was “Tailored for You”. Guests were encouraged to wear clothes dedicated to Black men’s style or Black Dandyism.
Though the event encourages guests to outdo their fashion sensibilities, a lot of trendspotting was done.
Let’s have a look at what’s hot this year!
Top Fashion Trends for 2025: What’s Here to Stay?
Polka Dots
Priyanka Chopra literally showed the entire world how to do polka dots. She ditched the traditional gown and instead came in a polka dotted power suit. Bold move, right? She proved yet once again that she doesn’t follow trends but tailors them instead. Over the last few years, a lot has been said about polka dots and how Indian celebrities are wearing it to make their pregnancy announcements. Well, Chopra’s dress got all the eyeballs and she surely did make an impressive statement.
It’s all about Maximalism
Minimal fashion seems to have taken a hit by its counterpart maximalism. In 2025, it’s time to stop playing safe and instead make bold moves. Think vibrant colours, opulent embellishments and layered textures. Put in some effort by celebrating grandeur. Your outfit should evoke emotion and create excitement.
Boho Revival
In 2025, the boho chic aesthetic is all set to make a comeback. While a lot of smaller designers are also jumping on the bandwagon, the trend is approved by designers like Chloe and Fendi. Sheer, free-flowing skirts and dresses are going to be all over. However, suede boho is gaining swift recognition. Suede gives the whole bohemian look a relaxed yet sophisticated feel.
Monochrome Mania
Have you ever considered wearing a single hue from head-to-toe? Well, it’s trending now and for all the right reasons. Don’t shy away from playing with textures and contrasts in a single colour. Monochrome does not necessarily have to be black and white. It can be any single colour to add depth and vibrancy to an outfit. Don’t go in for boring co-ord sets. Instead, experiment with flowy pieces and accessories.
Suit-up
At the MET, suits were surprisingly the night’s most popular style. Pant suits, power suits, you name it all. Wide legs were especially popular. However, nobody opted for the basic pant suits. Everyone decided to add some flair to it. Actor Zendaya revived the iconic 1970s style in a flared, white custom 3-piece pant suit by Louis Vuitton and a wide brimmed hat. The look was simple yet sophisticated. When they tribute it to Black Dandyism, pant suits were surely going to rule the red carpet.
Fringe Fashion
Another fashion trend we absolutely swear by in 2025 is fringes. They are making a vibrant resurgence and seamlessly blending vintage nostalgia with contemporary flair. On the runway, they’re being incorporated into jackets, skirts and dresses. A fringe not just offers texture but also dynamic movement. From bohemian roots, fringes are now making high-fashion statements. Besides clothes, fringes are also being used on bags and other accessories.
Vintage Revival
We already spoke about designers drawing inspiration from past decades. Well, classic styles from the 70s and 80s are coming back with bohemian looks and contemporary cuts. A little trendspotting we did are oversized blazers, bold shoulders, statement belts and funky silhouettes. If 70s is your inspiration, bell bottoms and maxi dresses are a few wardrobe staples you should stock up on.
Sensual Dressing
The last 2025 fashion trend is sensual dressing. Innerwear is being worn as outerwear. Designers are cleverly using sultry lace styles and soft, flowy chiffons. If you’re not too much into skimpy fashion, you can even pair it with an outer jacket.
Final Thoughts
Fashion is something that changes every year and every season. However, a few trends are always here to stay and these are some of them. As a fashion design student, it’s important to have a hawk eye and note down these trends. It will not just help you come up with your collection but also satisfy the demands of your customers.
